The Quarterly March 2020

March Twenty Twenty …….

As we drift towards longer evenings we know that spring is on its way and of course the daffodil in bloom in time for St Davids Day confirms that spring has sprung.
On the eve of St Davids Day our Quality award winning Pinot noir Précoce vintage 2017 was showcased and tasted on Saturday kitchen live hosted by celebrity chef Matt Tebbutt receiving great reviews as a top Pinot Noir Précoce.

It’s great to see our Welsh wine on television and recieve acknowledgements of a great wine from people from all over the country, many of whom had tasted the wine and are complementary to our welsh wines, thank you all for your kind words.
Getting back to the vineyard…at this time of year we are in the midst of winter pruning. The vines are about to start waking up after their winter rest and when the sap rises growth starts to be renewed. We started pruning much earlier this year. Robb has had knee surgery and we are a man down, for me it’s a huge challenge to finish the winter pruning single handed, however I do have help with cutting out the old canes and burning them in our very own “smokey jo”. Let’s not forget there’s the additional 2000 vines to prune this year! not the best year to be working single handed “Hey Ho”

Our Cellar Door has been as busy as ever, wine tasting seems a great pastime despite the weather, and I am pleased to share that I have been awarded another 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️food hygiene rating for scores on the doors.
We are thinking of introducing a midday vineyard tour followed by wine tasting and of course our renowned platter lunches are perfect to enjoy alongside your wine tasting with views across the vineyard.

The changes to our existing 3 o clock vineyard tour are soon to be listed as A grand vineyard experience followed by a wine flight and shall include a memorable gift to take away, start date for these to be confirmed.

Dates for your diary include Welsh Wine Week Saturday 23rd May – Sunday 31st May June 2020 and we shall be planning events for the week these will be posted on our Events page.

Key dates for us: London wine fair Monday 18th May until Wednesday 20th May at Olympia London this is the largest wine show in the UK and we are there showcasing our Welsh wines to trade and press from the UK and Europe.

One of our visitors in 2019 was celebrity chef James Martin and we shall be hoping to share his visit to our vineyard with you all when it is shown on television early to mid April this year.
Last year we celebrated a decade of success in the world of wine and its hard to believe that what was once a dream of mine has become a reality and we are where we are today, proud producers of wine in Wales.
Hot off the press: we have tasted our vintage 2019 wines and WoW have we got some incredible Welsh Wines for the offering.
Two of our wines have a special place in our hearts as they celebrate the births of our grandchildren we shall share more details of these at a later date.
Provenance is key and our visitors frequently tell us that our passion speaks volumes, and long may it continue to do so as we welcome many more of you to our tranquil setting in the great county of Monmouthshire.
